How to File Income Tax Return in Pakistan (Step-by-Step Guide 2025)
Filing your income tax return in Pakistan is legally required for all individuals with taxable income above Rs. 600,000 per year. It also places you on FBR's Active Taxpayer List (ATL), which gives you significant financial advantages.
Step 1: Get your NTN
Before you can file, you need a National Tax Number (NTN) from FBR. You can get this through our NTN Registration service in 2–3 business days.
Step 2: Gather your documents
For salaried employees: Salary slips for the year, Form 16/Employer certificate, Bank statements, CNIC copy.
Step 3: Log in to FBR IRIS
Go to iris.fbr.gov.pk and log in with your NTN and password. First-time users will need to set their password.
Step 4: File your return
Complete the Income Tax Return (ITR) form for the relevant tax year. Declare all income sources accurately.
Step 5: Submit and save acknowledgment
After submission, download the acknowledgment receipt — this is your proof of filing.
